Libraries in several Moray communities will be offering free WiFi as a result of a £37,000 award from the Scottish Government.
The cash has been earmarked to provide the new public service at Buckie, Forres, Keith and Elgin libraries and Holyrood’s library improvement fund granted the cash to Moray Council.
A council spokesman said that the demand from library users, visitors, businesses and job seekers has increased throughout all Moray’s area libraries.
Now the funding will enable them to work in partnership with the local authority’s Information Technology staff to provide a new managed and free service.
Announcing the funding the council spokesman said: “Appropriate partnerships will be set up to ensure increased digital participation by relevant target groups through improved access to IT.
“This will include supporting users to develop their skills and confidence to access public services, improve their job prospects and take advantage of the increasing number of electronic services which libraries offer.
“Key partners include Job Centre Plus, Skills Development Scotland, the Moray Health and Social Care Partnership and the Employability Action Group.”
