A 300-meter swim followed immediately by a 16k cycle through the Highlands rounded off by a 4.8k run through the woods.
That was the gruelling test faced and passed by two young Moray athletes when they took on the Try Triathlon in Grantown on Spey this week.
Sophia Green, a 14-year-old Elgin athlete and Grantown’s John Routledge came out on top in the women’s and men’s competition centred around the Craig MacLean Leisure Centre.
The pool at the centre was used for the swimming section while the cycle section took the young athletes on a circuit of Grantown Braes. Finally the run was mainly through the resurfaced footpaths of the Anagach Community Woods before finishing back at the sports centre.
Elgin Academy pupil Sophia won her event by completing the test in a little over one hour and two minutes, while John took just 51m 19s to win the men’s section.
