Moray distillery firm take over iconic Drambuie brand

One of Scotland’s most iconic brands is looking forward to a whole new future under the ownership of a leading Moray distillery firm.

After weeks of speculation Dufftown-based William Grant & Sons has become the new owners of the Drambuie brand of whisky liqueur brand.

The leading liqueur will now join the Balvenie and Glenfiddich malt whisky brands that have already contributed turnover of over £1billion for the firm this year.

Chief executive Stella David said: “We have a passion and a reputation for nurturing and building brands – Drambuie is a natural fit for our portfolio.

“It has a very rich history and a great story to tell – we are delighted to be in a position to start to re-engage with existing drinkers and to connect the brand with an entirely new generation of customers.”

Last week William Grant & Sons announced that turnover at grown by over 5% in the last year to £1.12billion with its flagship Glenfiddich brand continuing to maintain a position as the leading and most awarded single malt whisky.

The firm was established in 1887 and remains in the ownership of the descendants of founder William Grant.

A spokesman for the Grant family said: “We have always been secret admirers of Drambuie. We are grateful to the MacKinnon family for entrusting the future of this iconic brand to our family – we will do our best to make them proud in the decades ahead.”
