Dogstar hand over to Moray’s first community news shop

Dogstar Cards – handing over Keith shop

A pop-up shop in Keith has continued to prove popular with businesses that would otherwise have little opportunity to base themselves in the centre of town.

From Monday insideMoray will become the temporary tenants of the shop on Mid Street in Keith, providing shoppers with an opportunity to exchange views and information on Moray’s leading community news service.

Several groups from throughout Moray will join editor Stuart Crowther in the shop, each taking an opportunity to meet the public in an environment that they would otherwise not have the opportunity to utilize.

The shop is being handed over by Dogstar Cards, owned and operated by Nicky Leighton who started her small craft business in 2007.

Nicky has been working from the shop at 175 Mid Street for the last month: “It is a great idea and I’m very grateful to inKeith for providing small businesses like mine with the opportunity.

“I wish insideMoray well in their stay at the pop-up shop – it is great that the online news service is going out to the community and even better that other organisations such as Living it Up and the Moray branch of Diabetes UK are also grasping this opportunity.”

Nicky has been creating and selling her hand-made cards but has also expanded to include jewellery, gifts and bespoke kilts. A Keith local, she took up card making in her spare time when not childminding.

She said: “Dogstar Cards will close at the pop-up shop at 4pm on Friday but I hope that the many people who have called in will be able to catch up again quickly, as we will be at the St Rufus Christmas Fair in the Longmore Halls on Saturday.”

The fair will be open from 10am until 1.30pm on Saturday while later in the day, at the Royal Hotel on Church Road from 7.30pm there will be a ‘shopping event’ with Dogstar Cards again in attendance.
