Wartime torpedo head causes a stir on Lossiemouth beach

Drama on Lossie beach (Derek W Main)

The head of a second world war torpedo was placed under police guard on a Moray beach at the weekend after being discovered alongside a pipe.

Drama unfolded on Lossiemouth’s West Beach when the torpedo head was discovered and police informed – a cordon was placed around the area until a bomb disposal unit could attend.

Local fisherman Derek Main photographed the scene – and explained to one worried local that her previously standing on the black pipe did not mean she had been standing on a torpedo!

After posting an image of the scene on social media site Facebook, Mr Main explained to a worried friend: “The black thing in the image is a pipe – the torpedo head is among the pile of stones alongside it.”

Nobody was available for comment this morning but it is understood that the torpedo head has been removed and made safe.
