Council reveals Festive opening timetable for public services

Moray Council has announced its opening hours for community facilities throughout the forthcoming Christmas holiday period.

All council offices are to be close from 3pm on Christmas Eve and will not reopen until 8.45am on Monday, January 5.

There will be an emergency out-of-hours service in operation via 08457 565656 for all council matters including child protection issues.

Community Care service will operate on December 29 and 30 and can be contacted on 01343 563999 while support workers will be contactable through their usual numbers.

Day Care centres will close at 4pm on Christmas even until Monday, January 5.

Swimming pools, Fitness Centres and Community Centres

Buckie Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre
Keith Sports and Community Centre
Lossiemouth Sports and Community Centre

Closed from Wednesday, December 24 to Friday, January 2 inclusive, with a holiday timetable operating on January 3 and 4.

Normal timetables will resume on Monday, January 5.

Forres Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre

Closed from Wednesday, December 24 to Friday, January 2 inclusive, with the normal timetable resuming on Saturday, January 3.

Forres House Community Centre
Speyside Sports and Community Centre

Closed from Wednesday, December 24 to Sunday, January 4 inclusive, with the normal timetable resuming on Monday, January 5.

Cullen Community and Residential Centre
Elgin Sports and Community Centre
Milne’s Learning Centre Fitness Room

Closed from Saturday, December 20 to Sunday, January 4 inclusive, with the normal timetable resuming on Monday, January 5.

Football pitches and pavilions

Closed from Wednesday, December 24 to Friday, January 2 inclusive.

Refuse and recycling

Household collections of residual waste (green bin) and garden/food waste (brown bin) will continue to alternate weekly and recycling containers will continue to be serviced fortnightly over the festive period.

Collections may be carried out earlier than normal and containers should be presented for 7.30am.

All services, including recycling centres, will be closed on December 25 and December 26 and on January 1 and January 2.

Collections which would normally be made on Thursday, December 25 will instead be made on Saturday, December 27.

Collections which would normally be made on Friday, December 26 will instead be made on Sunday, December 28.

Collections which would normally be made on Thursday, January 1 will instead be made on Saturday, January 3.

Collections which would normally be made on Friday, January 2 will instead be made on Sunday, January 4.

The special collections and waste hotline will be closed from 3pm on Wednesday, January 24 and will reopen at 9am on Monday, January 5.

Excess waste and old Christmas trees can be taken to the recycling centres at Gollachy in Buckie, Chanonry in Elgin, Waterford in Forres or Balloch Road in Keith.

Public conveniences

All public conveniences will be closed on December 25 and December 26 and on January 1 and January 2.

Car parks

The St Giles and Batchen Lane multi-storey car parks in Elgin will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The car parks will close at 7pm the previous evening and will reopen at 9am the following day. Alternative street level parking is available.

Libraries

All libraries will close at 3pm on Wednesday, December 24 and will be closed on December 25, December 26, December 31, January 1 and January 2.

Normal opening hours will apply on December 27, December 29 and December 30.

The mobile library service will not operate from Monday, December 22 to Friday, January 2 inclusive.

Registrars

The office at 240 High Street, Elgin, will close at 3pm on Wednesday, December 24.

It will be open for business as normal from 9am to 5pm on Monday, December 29 and Tuesday, December 30.

Thereafter the office will be closed until 9am on Monday, January 5.
