Real green trees need real green disposal solutions

Moray residents who have elected to remain traditional with real Christmas trees are being urged to back up their green credentials.

With a total of 4.3million trees grown each year on Scottish farms Christmas is an important time of the year for growers – now Moray’s MSP Richard Lochhead is appealing for those with real trees to dispose of them sensibly.

In his role as Scotland’s environment secretary, the MSP is hoping that the majority of people will seek to recycle their trees – or if possible re-plant them for use again next year.

He said: “Real Christmas trees, many of which have been grown here in Scottish farms, add some authentic sparkle to homes – but I don’t think many people realise they can do their bit for the environment after they have used their trees by recycling them.

“All local authorities have recycling centres to take advantage of – I would encourage everyone to make sure that they do.”
