Aspiring artist will be offered three-month residency at Speyside distillery

A Speyside whisky distillery is offering budding artists a unique opportunity to win a £10,000 prize that will include a three-month residency at their distillery.

William Grant & Sons is offering the prize that would allow the lucky winner to create a new work inspired by their Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown.

The winner will spend three months at the distillery staying in a fully-equipped house and studio – and being paid production fees for their new work.

In a competition that is open to artists of any medium, the winner would join the ‘Artist in Resident’ scheme operated by the distillers, with coordinator Andy Fairgrieve saying: “The context of a fully working distillery presents a unique set of inspirational opportunities for our resident artists.

“With a strong focus on providing a welcoming and supportive environment, the programme excels in allowing creative minds free rein on their projects. Over the past 13 years this non-prescriptive approach has been rewarded with exciting new works of art across a wide range of media which reinforce the special qualities that are to be found at the Glenfiddich Distillery.”

The award will be made in partnership with the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture at their Contemporaries Exhibition in March.
