Moray has been named as the top destination for tourists renting holiday properties in the UK over the last year.
Popular travel site ‘TripAdvisor’ named Moray as the best place to be for holiday rentals – topping several well known destinations including the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
TripAdvisor lists 650,000 holiday rentals around the world and recently undertook a study of their customer feedback ratings for holiday homes in the UK. In these Moray came out top with a satisfaction rating of 4.89 from a possible five, narrowly beating Perth and Kinross into second place.
Carmarthenshire in Wales came third in the top-ten with English regions Wiltshire and Gloucestershire occupying the remaining top-five slots.
TripAdvisor spokesman James Kay said: “With consistently highly rated holiday rentals now spread from Moray in Scotland all the way south to Wiltshire in England, our research shows the UK holidaygoers are spoilt for choice when it comes to planning their self-catering staycation in the UK.”
A spokesman for the recently formed Laich Coast Tourism Group said: “We are not at all surprised by the results of this comprehensive study.
“Visitors to Moray are on a steady rise again with events such as the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival and the European Pipe Band Championships introducing thousands of people new to the area each year.
“Our coastline provides the most fantastic natural environment, quite possibly the best in the country, while those providing accommodation in the region have always sought to create the best possible standards – and this study proves they are doing just that.”
