The Elgin Rotary Club are gearing up their plans for the latest biennial Marafun that has raised £650,000 for local charities since it was first created in 1991.
Once again 100 local charities and community groups will share equally in what is raise, funding that will help them in their good work in our local communities.
Diageo will return as the major sponsor for the event which will see an Adult Street Relay race with team of five runners of all abilities competing for the fun of it.
A spokesman for the Elgin Rotary Club said: “There are a number of team categories for men, ladies, mixed, fun runners, services and sports clubs while we will also be looking out for the best fancy dress!
“There is a primary school run with the children running one lap of the relay course ahead of the main race.
“To complement and complete the day there will be ‘show and shine’, car displays, food and other stalls as well as entertainment and fun activities for all the kids.
“2015 promises to be another great Marafun and great fun community event, and we need your help.”
Support for Marafun – which will take place on Sunday, June 7 – is being sought over a number of areas, with people being told they can help by:
• Being a business sponsor, opportunities available to suit all businesses and budgets
• Encouraging your staff, friends or family to enter a team and sponsor them
• Encouraging your favourite and deserving local charitable or community cause to apply for support from what is raised (first come first served basis)
• Coming along on the day to support the event and cheer on your or other teams and have a memorable day out with family and friends
The emphasis is on community fun that helps 100 local charitable/community causes continue their good work.
Any Community Group interested in being considered for a share of the funds raised from Marafun must apply. Application forms and other details are available on the Elgin Rotary Club’s website, from any Moray Library, tsiMoray or by telephoning the event Convener, Sandy Ritchie on 01343 545285.
