Vandals cause concerns over the future of public toilet facilities

Vandals struck twice at Station Park facility

Public toilets in a Moray town could be under threat of permanent closure after vandals struck twice during the festive break.

The Station Park toilets in Lossiemouth are normally locked up overnight by a team of volunteers – however, that did not stop vandals striking first on Hogmanay and then again five days later.

On both occasions Moray Council staff arriving to clean the facility found toilet seats broken and ripped off with taps also damaged leaving the toilets flooded.

The vandalism caused dismay with local community councillor Carolle Ralph calling on help from the public in identifying who was responsible for the damage.

She said: “Whilst they have been repaired today it is really infuriating – if anyone knows anything about this please get in touch.

“It seems it happened one of the nights I was in hospital. We do our best to keep them safe and because of our rota of volunteers they stay open.

“We need members of the public to be extra vigilant as this is the second time in four months that this has happened.”
