Elaine steps out of Keith NFUS office to scoop top award

A Keith woman has been honoured with a prestigious award for her outstanding contribution to the NFUS and Scottish Agriculture.

Elaine Robertson is secretary of the Banffshire Branch of the Farmer’s Union and also an Agent based at the NFUS Keith office.

She becomes only the second Moray winner of the John Miskelly Memorial Award, which was last won by a Moray resident in 2009 when Jo Durno of Glenlivet received the award. The annual awards was established in memory of John Miskelly, who served as Regional Manager with the Union and vigorously supported numerous local causes.

It was given generously by John’s family following his death in 2006, and recognises those within the Union who have put enormous time and effort into promoting its work.

Moray MSP and Chief Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, Richard Lochhead, was amongst the first to congratulate Elaine, saying: “Elaine has dedicated many years to the NFUS and I’m absolutely delighted that she won the 2015 Miskelly Award.

“I’ve known Elaine for a number of years now and I’ve seen first hand how hard she works, always going above and beyond, and I’m really pleased to see her efforts recognised by the NFUS.

“Agriculture is a hugely important sector locally, and it’s fantastic that this award has found its way back to Moray following on from Jo Durno’s win in 2009.

“I really can’t think of a more deserving recipient for this year’s award than Elaine.”
