A Moray College student has emerged victorious in a national competition to design and create a new computer game from scratch.
Corrie Green from Elgin was the only solo entrant from 14 teams competing at the Moray Game Jam, where designers from throughout Scotland had the task of designing and creating a new game from scratch – and launching it as a commercial enterprise over a weekend.
An HND student at the college, Corrie’s prize from the event is the opportunity to develop his product further with the assistance of the Hunted Cow Studio in Elgin.
Corrie beat a team of game developers from the Abertay University into second place in a contest that also offered competitors the chance to design a traditional board game. Judging for the contest was conducted by a panel of experts – including one who had travelled from California.
Also judging was Andrew Mulholland, co-director of Hunted Cow Studios who are publishers of mobile games. He said: “With the addition of master classes from industry veterans and the board game category, the event had a broad appeal for anyone with an interest in physical and digital game design and development.”
Based at South Street in Elgin, Hunted Cow have a world-wide user base of over one million playing browser, tablet and phone based games such as Fallen Sword, Eldevin and Battle Dungeon.
