A Buckie couple intend to enjoy the wedding of their dreams after netting a £1million prize in the National Lottery.

Offshore worker Michael Innes, 29, became Scotland’s latest millionaire when he scooped the prize with an “instant win” ticket when checking his regular EuroMillions online lottery entry.

“I could not believe it when I saw we had won the £1million prize,” Mr Innes said as he collected his cheque at Elgin’s Mansion House Hotel on Friday.

Mr Innes revealed that he and fiancé Megan were now upgrading their wedding plans with the win ensuring they would have the wedding they want rather than one they were having to settle for.

He added: “We live in my mum and dad’s house in Buckie while they are based in Tenerife at the moment. The win will also give us the opportunity to look for a house of our own and start married life in an entirely new situation.”

Michael is currently employed offshore as a caterer while fiancé Megan is a student nurse facing her exams in the next week.

He insists, however, that while a his wedding and a new home are high in his thoughts “we want to play the rest by ear at the moment before taking any other bigger decisions.”
