Elgin Specsavers set their sights on more success for Moray Paralympian

Jim Gault and Peter Taylor

Lossiemouth’s Paralympic bronze medallist Jim Gault has been sharing his winning experience with staff at Elgin’s Specsavers store this week.

The High Street store has signed up as the curling champion’s new sponsor – and to mark the partnership Jim called in to Specsavers to meet staff and talk about his sport and the success he enjoyed as part of the UK Team at the Sochi Winter Games last year.

Jim started curling in 2008 and quickly established himself in the sport, rising to make his Paralympic debut – and playing a major role in a superb team performance in winning bronze alongside his Moray team-mate Gregor Ewan.

Peter Taylor, retail director at Specsavers Elgin, said: ‘We are delighted to offer our support to Jim – he is an incredible sportsman who did amazingly well at his first Paralympic Games.

“He recently visited the store to speak to the team during our weekly training session and was very inspiring. He talked all about his medal win as well as the challenges he has faced after ending up in a wheelchair.

“Jim also told some very funny stories about celebrities he has met as a result of his win. He is a great character and the staff really enjoyed his talk.”

As part of the sponsorship, Specsavers has provided Jim with funding to assist with his training costs. Jim said: “I am thrilled to be involved in a partnership with Specsavers, the funding will be a great help towards my training costs.

“I have been a customer of Specsavers for more than 14 years and have always been treated well by staff, and their glasses are excellent.

“The store has played a big part in my curling success and I am pleased to say ‘I did go to Specsavers’.”
