New beginning for popular Moray touring site

Barry and Ruth Scott celebrate new start for Hopeman park

A Moray caravan park is hoping to help revitalise tourist facilities along the Moray coast after it was taken over this week by the owners of the Bothy Bistro in Burghead.

The 14-acre West Beach Caravan Park in Hopeman has been the subject of protracted negotiations in recent months, but Barry and Ruth Scott this week finally signed off on a new future for the park.

Ruth told insideMoray: “Not many caravan parks can boast so much space that includes its own beach!

“We now want to bring a welcoming and happy vibe back to this beautiful park while at the same time keeping it centred very much on family holidays.

“Our plans for the park include the introduction of “glamping” next year so that we will have facilities that suit everyone. A lot of sites no longer provide facilities for touring vans or tents and we see that as a missed opportunity.

“We are embarking on a series of improvements at the site and these will be carried out over the next two years – during which time it will be very much business as usual. We are very excited about this new venture.”

The couple are well known for establishing the Bothy in Burghead which has rapidly risen to become one of the most popular eating establishments in Moray.

Welcoming the new ownership deal a spokesman for the Laich Coast Tourism Group said: “We are delighted that Barry and Ruth have decided to make further investment in tourism in our area.

“Both are very well known for their love and passion for Moray – in fact they have been a driving force in our group since it began last year.

“We wish them the very best of luck with the park and feel confident that it will become a major attraction to bringing more visitors to our part of Moray.”
