ENTRANTS ARE SOUGHT for one of Moray’s more unusual annual championships – with organisers hoping that a local competitor can retain the title from ‘foreign’ invaders!
The Cullen Voluntary Trust Initiative are behind the Cullen Skink World Championships – a contest that invites amateur and professional alike to come up with a “twist” to one of the region’s most famous dishes.
Now the Trust have revealed that the 2015 championship will be held in November – and are inviting entrants now for the challenge that saw Fife man Neal Robertson walk off with the honours last year.
“That was the first time the world championship trophy left home soil – however, we did manage to keep the Cullen Skink ‘with a twist’ cup here,” the initiative’s Simon Tucker said.
He added: “As well as maintaining the tradition of an iconic recipe we look at the competition as a means of promoting Cullen as its home.”
Saturday, November 22 is the chosen date for 2015 – with once again the Cullen Bay Hotel the venue for the competition, with owner Rena Watson saying: “We are delighted to be hosting the event – there is a real buzz on the day, and events like this help showcase what a fantastic place Cullen is.”
Entrants seeking to win the “with a twist” trophy must still include the basic ingredients of potato, milk, onion and of course smoked haddock to their recipe.
Entry forms for the 2015 event can be found online or by email to visit@discovercullen.com – information on the event can also be obtained by calling 07831 768349.
The closing date for entries is October 31.
