MOVES TO ESTABLISH a skatepark in Lossiemouth could be launched if there is sufficient public support at a meeting being called next month.

Meetings have already been held after a group of people interested in establishing a facility in the town sparked a renewed bid over an issue that has been discussed in recent years but failed – primarily through lack of funding.

A highly successful skatepark facility established in Hopeman was studied by Lossiemouth Community Councillors three years ago when it was proposed that a facility might be created in Lossiemouth’s Marine Park.

Now the Lossiemouth Skatepark Group has been organised via social media site Facebook with over 600 members in a matter of weeks. Speaking on behalf of the group Tracy Robbie said: “We have called a public meeting where people can sign a petition to show their backing for this project.

“It will also afford an opportunity to meet the youth committee who are behind the latest efforts and are determined to take this forward. It is hoped that at the meeting people can come along and share any ideas they might have on the creation of a skatepark in the town.”

The meeting has been called for Monday, June 1 at 7pm in the Lossiemouth Community Centre.
