HOT ON THE HEELS of the recent Cairngorm to Coast challenge Moray’s leading outdoor education charity is embarking on an even more ambitious event.

Outfit Moray are determined that their home region is not left behind in the growing popularity of adventure races in the UK – in particular as Moray affords some of the most spectacular countryside on which to stage such events.

Using the Moray Way to provide the backdrop they have developed a new challenge that will take place for the first time at the end of June, with invitations being issued for entrants willing to have a go at covering the entire 95-mile route inside 24 hours.

The Mighty Moray Drambuster is an endurance and adventure that will see participants tackle a 58-mile mountain bike ride, 15-mile canoe journey and 22-mile hike.

Melanie Newbould, who is marketing coordinator for Outfit Moray, explained: “Following the success of the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Cairngorm to Coast challenge last weekend, we’re really looking forward to hosting our own adventure race.

“We will be welcoming people from across the country who will enjoy the fantastic opportunities to enjoy the outdoors on offer in Moray – all be it on a bit of a whistle-stop tour!”

Participants are being given the option to taking on three distinct challenges, Melanie saying: “Entrants can complete 28 miles mountain biking or 15 miles paddling for Bronze, 58 miles mountain biking and 15 miles paddling for Silver, or go the whole hog – the entire 95 miles in the three disciplines for Gold.”

For the inaugural event entries will be limited to 25 pairs where both team members must complete together. If successful there will be scope to extend the entry limit in future years with solo entrants and quad teams working in relay.

The event – on Sunday, June 28 – will also raise funds for Outift Moray, MFR Cash for Kids and Quarriers Moray Carer Support. Each participant will be asked to raise a minimum of £50 for each charity.

More details about the event, and the entry form can be found on Outfit Moray’s website.

Entries must be in by Friday, June 5 2015.
