Council switch for out of hours emergency number

A NEW NUMBER is to be used for members of the public to call Moray Council for assistance outside of normal office hours.

The local authority have reacted to ensure that anyone calling them would only have to pay calls at a local rate.

Currently the council receives around 1000 calls to their emergency out of hours number each month – but now legislative changes mean that anyone calling the current number from a landline or mobile would incur additional charges from July 1.

A Council spokesman said that they took their decision to change the number so that calls would still only be charged at a local rate.

He said: “Both the new number and its predecessor are now active, with calls to the old number being forwarded to the new number. In due course the old number will be disconnected.”

The number out of hours callers should use with immediate effect is 03457 565656.
