WHISKY MAY BE the product of Piping at Forres sponsors Benromach – but a touch of Gin will be entering proceedings when the event takes place next week!
As part of Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink, the European Piping Championships event is to include a ‘Scottish Gin Bar’ being run in conjunction with Elgin bar the Drouthy Cobbler.
Their beer tent will be one of several alongside Lossiemouth’s Windswept and local Forres craft brewers Speyside – and of course main sponsor Benromach Speyside Single Malt. For those with non-alcoholic tastes on the day there will also be the Piping Hot Coffee Shop operated by Brodie Countryfare.
For all pipe bands competing this year there will also be the bonus of a hamper brim-full of food and drink provided by the sponsors which they can then raffle to raise funding for participation at future championships.
And for those taking their pets along they will not be forgotten either – with treats and drinking water on hand at ‘Pooch’s Corner’ operated by Pearl’s Pet Care.
The food and drink theme will continue throughout the day with the heats of the World Tattie Scone competition, where competitors will vie to make a tattie scone using a set recipe with mashed Albert Bartlett Rooster potatoes and Carr’s flour – plus your own ‘magic’ ingredient.
David Urquhart, Marketing and Sponsorship Director of Piping at Forres operators Forres Events Ltd, said: “June is the month of Innovation in Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink and to celebrate this we have introduced the Scottish Gin Bar is to take account of the explosion of the number of Scottish Gins being produced in Scotland.
“We strive each year to make Piping At Forres not just about excellent piping but also to make it a great family day out which also celebrates Forres, Moray and Scotland.”
