A MALE VOICE CHOIR has come to the aid of the cash-strapped Moray Hydrotherapy Pool after pledging £1000 to help keep the facility going.

The Forres pool has struggled since Moray Council withdrew annual funding of £20,000 towards the running of the facility that was created through the efforts of local community fundraising.

When it became clear that the local authority would not have a change of heart a series of initiatives were launched in an attempt to ensure the much-needed facility continued to provide a service to people suffering from a number of disabling illnesses.

Since their formation in 2013 the Glen Moray male voice choir has generated more than £6000 for worthy causes in the region – and one of those chosen to benefit was the pool.

Choir member Alistair Farquhar said: “A few of our members have used the pool, as have their wives, and we heard that it had run into some trouble since having its council funding removed.

“We always look to help local causes and this seemed like a good chance to assist a group we have close links with.”

Chairman of the Moray Hydrotherapy Pool trustees, Chris Combe, said: “Since our funding was withdrawn in February we have looked at ways of cutting costs and raising funds – we are doing better now than we feared we might by this time of the year.

“Any fundraisers are very welcome and we are especially thankful to the choir for their generous efforts.”
