MORAY WOMEN’S AID are hoping for a festive boost from the annual Christmas Card produced for the region’s parliamentarians.
Each year Angus Robertson MP and Richard Lochhead MSP hold a design competition encouraging school-age children to come up with an official Christmas Card.
The competition attracts support from local businesses with the 2014 card, produced in aid of the Moray Foodbank, leading to a £1000 donation to the charity.
For 2015 the beneficiary will be Moray Women’s Aid, who offer services to women, children and young people suffering from domestic abuse.
Mr Robertson said: “Over the years we have had a huge number of entries from children all over Moray and every year we have great designs to choose from. This year’s competition theme is ‘Happiness’ and we would love to see entries from as many primary aged children as possible by November 20.
“The winner will see their card design printed and used as the 2015 Moray Parliamentary Office Christmas Card.”
His Holyrood colleague Richard Lochhead MSP added: “I am really looking forward to seeing the entries for our 2015 Christmas Card competition. In past years we have had many fantastic designs from some very talented young people in Moray and I know we can expect the same again!
“It was great to be able to donate a thousand pounds last year to the Foodbank and I am sure we will be able to make a further substantial donation to charity this year with the very generous sponsorship from Moray businesses. Moray Women’s Aid do a huge amount of work providing refuge and support for victims of Domestic Abuse.”
Elle Johnston, the service manager at Moray Women’s Aid, welcomed the support, saying: “It’s great to get more awareness of the work that we do and money raised from it will go directly to supporting some of Moray’s most vulnerable families.”
Competition Entries should be sent to Moray Parliamentary Office, 9 Wards Road, Elgin, IV30 1NL and should arrive no later than Friday 20th November.
Anyone looking for information on sponsorship of the Christmas Card Competition should also contact the Parliamentary Office on 01343 551111.
