EMERGENCY SERVICES CONDUCTED a major land, air and sea search along the Moray coastline when they received reports of a missing teenage boy.
The search centred on an area between Hopeman and Covesea following an emergency call from a dog walker who indicated that the boy had been seen around 2pm clambering over cliffs at a spot where there is a sheer drop into the sea.
A rescue helicopter from Inverness was called in to join the search alongside coastguard teams from Buckie, Burghead and Lossiemouth, with the Buckie lifeboat also searching along the coastline.
Police reported that at one point it was feared the missing boy may have been a pupil from Lossiemouth High School who had not turned up for classes – however, he was located safe and well shortly after 5pm.
The search was called off at 6pm with a police spokesman saying that they would continue their inquiries into the incident.
