Rev Peter Turnbull – urging those who would not normally go to church to join him on Sunday

A MORAY PASTOR who says his church is “for people who would not normally go to church” is throwing his doors wide open again this weekend.

Peter Turnbull arrived in Burghead where the congregation can be counted in dozens from a part of Sheffield where he his church had the support of over 900 parishioners.

Undaunted, his first move was to hold a special introductory service at the end of August that was designed as a ‘meet and greet’ at the Burghead Free Church on Grant Street in the fishing port.

That attracted a number of younger parishioners – and has encouraged Mr Turnbull to repeat the exercise on Sunday evening at 6pm.

“Church services can have a reputation for being a big mysterious or closed to outsiders,” Mr Turnbull said, adding: “At Burghead Free Church my aim is to make all we do comprehensible to those with little or no church background – and that is especially true with our invitation services such as Sunday’s.”

Services are normally held at the church each Sunday at 11am – the Pastor has also embraced Social Media to reach out to parishioners around Moray.
