MORAY COMMUNITIES ARE being challenged to take to the pool next month in an event helping to end polio in those parts of the world where the disease still exists.
A ‘Swimarathon’ has been organised by Elgin Rotary for communities around Elgin at the Moray Leisure Centre on Saturday, February 20 from 1pm until 2pm.
Meanwhile a second event will be held on the same day for Lossiemouth, Burghead and Hopeman communities at the Lossiemouth Swimming Pool from 4pm until 5pm.
A spokesman for Elgin Rotary said that people can enter either or both events as individuals on in teams of five, with each paying an entry fee while also being encouraged to seek sponsorship for their swimming efforts.
The spokesman added: “All money raised will be used by the Rotary International appeal to eradicate polio world-wide – but these swimarathons are not just about raising money, they are very much fun events for all the family.
“Full details on both events can be found on our website at www.elgin.rotary1010.org – we hope to see as many people from these communities as possible taking part in this worthy effort.”
Further details can also be obtained by email to swimarathon@elginrotary.co.uk.
