A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL year for Moray Business Women has been marked with a £9000 cheque presented to Lucy Lintott at their annual Burns Supper.
The Moray business group select a charity each year before throwing their support behind it for twelve months – and that honour went to ‘Lucy’s Fight’, a courageous effort by the 21-year-old to raise £100,000 for the charity MND.
Lucy’s fundraising efforts have become legendary in Moray and has seen her so far reach around the three-quarters mark in her fundraising effort, launched when she was diagnosed with MND just over two years ago.
After receiving the latest cheque from Moray Business Women, Lucy said: “Last year my dad stood up in a room of women to talk to them about MND and me in the hope that they would pick Lucy’s Fight as there charity of the year.
“He later came home to tell me that I was there charity for 2015 – and that I owed him one. For the next year I attended as many of their events as I could, but the first event I attended I was so scared. I had no idea what to expect and I felt nervous at the fact I was going to be surrounded by successful business women.
“After that first event I felt so silly that I had been nervous because they were a great group of women, all lovely and welcoming.
“A massive thank you to everyone at Moray Business Women for picking Lucy’s Fight and supporting me over the past year, you are an amazing group of ladies.”
For 2016 Moray Business Women have selected the Moray Women’s Aid group as their charity of choice, with a spokeswoman saying: “We are delighted to announce we have our new charity for 2016 – we heard from three fantastic causes, all worthy and all with a very different story to tell.
“Our attending members voted and we are proud to be able to announce that we will be supporting Moray Women’s Aid and we very much look forward to working with them this year.”
