AN ASSAULT IN a Moray village has sparked a police hunt and appeal for witnesses.

Police Scotland say that a 28-year-old man was assaulted and robbed of clothing and personal items in the Church Street area of Portknockie on Friday.

The incident is reported to have happened at around 7pm with police saying that they are looking to trace two teenage males who would have been in the area of the bus shelter near to the Spar shop at the time.

It is thought that they may have information that could assist the police investigation, with enquiry officer Detective Constable Mitch Dickson from the Elgin CID saying: “This incident happened in the early evening of Friday 12 February 2016, near to the local shop in Portknockie.

“The victim is likely to be left with a permanent scar to his face as a result of the incident and has been shaken up.

“I would encourage anyone with information which could assist the enquiry to contact Elgin CID on 101. In particular we would like to trace the two teenage males who would have been in the area at the time as they may be able to assist police enquiries.”
