Public meetings called to discuss school rezoning plans

Secondary school rezoning plans enter consultation period

FOUR SPECIAL CONSULTATION meetings are to be held in Moray allowing parents or guardians their say on extensive reorganisations of school catchment areas.

The local authority are seeking to change catchments areas for Forres Academy, Lossiemouth High School, Elgin Academy, Elgin High School and Milne’s High School.

Some of the current zoning arrangements date back to the 1970’s and take no account of growth in Moray since then – prompting the council to say that many of the boundaries are now irrelevant.

In May the Council’s children and young people’s services committee agreed the key principles of rezoning with a paper published online showing the new zone boundaries being proposed.

Now the local authority is ready to commence the statutory consultation process which formally started yesterday and will end on March 24.

Anyone interested in the changes but who cannot attend any of the meetings can respond by email to futureschools@moray.gov.uk or completing the online consultation form – comments can also be submitted by writing to the local authority at:
