THE GENERAL PUBLIC have been issued with an open invitation to attend the launch of Moray Council’s £2.5million dredger in Buckie today.
The MV Selkie will be officially launched by Clare Russell, the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire, at a ceremony taking place in the harbour at 12noon.
Built at the Macduff Shipyard facility in Buckie, the Selkie is Scotland’s only council-owned dredger and will be hired out for use at other harbours as well as caring for the Council’s own properties.
The dredger is to be launched at a ceremony that will be led by Moray Council’s Convener, Councillor Allan Wright, with a blessing for the new ship being undertaken by the minister for Findochty and Portknockie, Rev Dr Hilary Smith, before being formally named by the Lord Lieutenant.
Guided tours of the new vessel will be undertaken immediately after the ceremony.
