Gas leak closes A96 at Elgin (now reopened)

Fears Elgin will suffer a repeat of the roads chaos seen in Nairn last year.
Diversion in place because of suspected gas leak

A SUSPECTED GAS LEAK caused the closure of the busy A96 to the east of Elgin this afternoon.

Diversions have been put in place using the A941 to Lossiemouth and B9103 to Sherrfston – with westbound traffic being diverted along the opposite direction.

The road was reopened shortly after 3.30pm.

Our thanks to motorists who have been in touch with insideMoray highlighting the road problem, which is understood to be linked to gas works in the immediate area that were announced last week.

Similar works in the Nairn area caused serious issues for local motorists last year.
