THE FINAL DESIGN for Moray’s new multi-purpose Sports Centre are expected to be unveiled next week.
The long awaited project was first discussed shortly after the 2012 Olympic Games, with Lossiemouth gold medallist Heather Stanning putting her name firmly behind those who believed it was a facility Moray desperately required.
Following several meetings and an initiative by Springfield Properties owner Sandy Adam, initial plans for a new centre were revealed last summer. Since then consultations have been taking place gathering the views of residents, sports clubs and other interested parties.
Now these have resulted in a final design being prepared – and these will be revealed at a meeting in the Alexander Graham Bell Centre at 6.30pm on Monday. It is hoped that groups, clubs and individuals take this final opportunity to have their say on the designs.
Work on the site close to the Linkwood Distillery in Elgin is expected to begin next year, with Mr Adam saying: “What gets built depends on how much capital we can raise – and I urge as many people as possible to come along to hear how they can help us make a difference.”
Sports Centre Chief Executive Kathryn Evans underlined the role the public will play in the eventual makeup of the new facility: “I appeal to community groups, clubs, charities and businesses to come to the meeting to tell us how they might use our facilities as a meeting place, training facility or event venue.”
