Up to 20mm of rain expected to fall in parts of Moray this afternoon.

HEAVY DOWNPOURS ARE being expected just about anywhere in Moray this afternoon, according to the latest warning from the Met Office.

A Yellow Alert has been issued covering all bar the southern tip of Moray with forecasters saying that heavy showers can be expected at any point between 2pm today (Wednesday) and 9pm this evening.

“Showers will affect northern Scotland this afternoon, where some of these may become heavy and slow moving with a risk of some torrential downpours,” the Met Office warning has said.

It adds: “Not everywhere in the warning area will see the heaviest of the rain with some places remaining dry. Showers will ease later this evening. Please be aware that some low level disruption may occur due to localised flooding.”

The forecast is the result of a low pressure front that is drifting eastwards over Moray – bringing a sharp end to what has been a relatively sunny morning.

It is being predicted that some areas may see as much as 20mm of rainfall over a period of just over an hour and a half.
