PROPOSALS THAT COULD see the creation of an A96 bypass between Forres and Fochabers is the cause of greatest concern with local people.
That is the view that has been expressed by SNP MSP Richard Lochhead in a meeting he had with Transport Minister Humza Yousaf this week.
Mr Lochhead has raised what he says are the considerable concerns of constituents over ‘Option N’ in the dualling plans for the A96 route through Moray, the subject of consultation events taking place in Fochabers, Forres and Elgin next week.
The MSP said that there had been strong views expressed from communities along the proposed route – and welcomed a commitment from Mr Yousaf to investigate these and provide Mr Lochhead with a response when that is concluded.
Mr Lochhead said: “I recently met with the new Transport Minister to discuss various issues relating to Moray. During our discussions I raised with him the route options outlined by Transport Scotland for the dualling of the A96 as part of the consultation process.
“I conveyed to Humza Yousaf the strength of feeling within communities in Moray about the suitability of Option N – and indeed my own strong reservations – which he took on board. I also made it clear that the communities involved need a decision to be taken at the earliest opportunity.
“He assured me that he would go away and look into this route option and the concerns of the people of Moray, which I very much welcome and I look forward his reply.”
On Monday, Douglas Ross MSP revealed that he had also arranged a meeting this week with Mr Yousaf to discuss local concerns over the available routes.
