A MILLION POUND project to replace part of the roof at Forres Academy is expected to get under way next month.
The flat-roofed area on the schools has for many years been causing many problems during periods of heavy rain – now a contract has been awarded for remedial work that will be carried out over three phases, the first starting on October 5.
Initial work will be completed by the end of the year – subsequent phases will then be targeted for completion by June next year but depends greatly on prevailing weather conditions.
A Moray Council spokesman said: “Leaks in the flat roof have been a constant problem for the school but thankfully they will soon be a thing of the past.
“The contractors will be working closely with the school to ensure that health and safety issues are the paramount consideration while these works are in progress and that disruption to pupils, staff and neighbours is kept to a minimum for the duration of the contract.”.
