POLICE HAVE CONFIRMED that three people have been detained in Elgin in connection with an incident in Elgin.

Local witnesses say that a man was seen lying on the street in the Lesmurdie Road area of the town close to Marleon Field – a heavy police presence followed.

A local resident told insideMoray: “A man was seen injured on the road and police quickly cordoned off the area – it is such an awful thing, I live close by and it is horrible to think that something like this can happen so close.”

Police remain in the area conducting investigations with a Police Scotland spokesman saying: “We can confirm that three people have been detained following reports of a disturbance in the Lesmurdie Road area of Elgin at around 11.20pm. Our enquiries are ongoing.”

Update:

This afternoon Police Scotland confirmed that a 23-year-old man has been charged in relation to the incident, and he is expected to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court tomorrow (September 15).

In a statement police also confirmed that the injuries sustained by the victim were not life-threatening, the update saying: “As a result of the incident a 26-year-old man was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin with serious but not life threatening or life changing injuries. He remains in a stable condition in hospital at this time.

“Enquiries are continuing into the incident.”
