Tragedy as 14-year-old dies and three teens injured on Moray road

A FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL has tragically died following a road accident near Buckie on Wednesday evening.

Police have confirmed that the young girl lost her life in the accident on the Keith to Buckie road close to Rye Riggs, Aultmore at around 10.38pm. Her family have been informed.

The accident involved a black Vauxhall Corsa driven by a 17-year-old male and a grey Nissan Terrano driven by a 42-year-old male – both men suffered minor injuries.

Travelling in the Corsa were four females – including the 14-year-old victim.

The other three females aged 14, 16 and 17 were taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin by ambulance.

The 14-year-old was later being transferred by Air Ambulance to Glasgow as she has life-threatening injuries while the 16 and 17-year-old females were described as having serious injuries but were stable.

Road Policing Sergeant Rob Warnock said: “My thoughts, and that of my officers, are very much with the family and friends of the 14 year old girl who sadly died in this tragic collision.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the crash or who may have seen either vehicle shortly beforehand and who hasn’t yet spoken with Police to do so as a matter of urgency to help us piece together exactly what happened.”
