MORAY COMMUNITY COUNCILS could be set for the largest shake-up since they were first established in the region.
Moray Council has revealed that they will carry out a full review on the framework of the 20 community councils currently in operation.
The review follows agreement by Councillors earlier this month that the scheme of establishment setting out the rules by which community councils function should be redrafted.
Community councils are the most local tier of statutory representation in Scotland and are seen as an important link between communities and their local authority.
Now Moray Council say that part of the review will be obtaining comments and views from individuals, groups or organisations in the region who have an interest in community councils – this stage will be completed on December 19.
Any amendments to the scheme of establishment will be the subject of further public consultation in the New Year before final proposals are put to Moray councillors in March. Community Council elections are due to take place in Moray in August and September, by which time they will be formed under the revised scheme.
