Elgin’s Christmas on Ice receives a public thumbs up

House full notice in the first weekend of Elgin’s new holiday attraction.

IT HAS BEEN HAILED as quite possibly the most exciting attraction ever to arrive in Elgin over a Christmas and New Year holiday.

If the opening weekend of the Elgin Ice Festival are anything to go by, then it will indeed achieve its target of attracting revellers into the city centre as the ‘house full’ notices went up on the rink.

The festival has drawn crowds just to see it being created over the last week, and while a final hitch with the ice itself did cause the cancellation of the grant opening gala on Friday evening, the rink was ready for the public on schedule at lunchtime on Saturday – and they quickly gave it their thumbs up!

“Two amazing days of public sessions took place with us having to apologise to people who sought places on the ice – because we were fully booked on both days,” a spokesman for the Ice Festival organisers said.

He added: “Now we can see that Friday and Saturday of this week – the two days before Christmas – are also filling up fast so we urge those wishing to skate then to book via our website.”

After-school public skating sessions will be held throughout the week with many more expected to snap up places for these at an attraction that will remain in place until January 7.

Local clubs and private hires will see the rink used throughout the day – but there will also be public sessions at various times throughout the day until 9.45pm – check the website for full details.
