Man facing attempted murder charge following Elgin incident

Police moved to reassure public that this was an ‘isolated incident’.

A MORAY COMMUNITY is in shock after an alleged stabbing incident at a flat in Elgin left one man in hospital and another facing a charge of attempted murder.

The arrest followed an incident on Saturday evening at a flat on Murdoch’s Wynd in the centre of Elgin and follows a 45-year-old man being taken to hospital for treatment to serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Michael Ritchie, 45, was arrested in connection with the incident and appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court where he made no plea on an attempted murder charge – he was remanded and is expected to reappear in court next week.

Police moved quickly to reassure residents that this was an isolated incident, with Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson saying: “I would like to thank the public for their patience while officers attended the scene.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to stress that this was a contained and isolated incident, and at no point was there any threat to the wider public.”

Residents around the flat indicated that the arrested man had not been living there for very long and pretty much kept himself to himself, describing him as a “very quiet neighbour”.
