SECONDARY SCHOOL PUPILS from throughout Moray are being lined up for WorldHost training as part of a project organised by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Moray.
Almost 90 pupils will take part when DYW Moray runs their two-day course for students interested in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry – the first course will begin on February 15.
WorldHost is recognised across the world as a standard of high quality customer service, and was received by all the volunteers at the 2012 Olympics.
The qualification brings an industry benchmark that businesses and their operators can use to ensure that high quality customer service standards are integral to their operation. It has already been used to train over 10% of Scotland’s tourism workforce and represents an investment of over £2million since it was launched in Scotland
This two-day training is being offered as the result of a partnership between DYW Moray, Moray Speyside Tourism and Johnstons of Elgin whose generous support will result in the students and schools receiving this Olympic-standard training at no cost.
Pupils from all eight Moray secondary schools will have the chance to put what they have learned into practice on the second day of the training. All students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate and pin-badge in recognition of their achievement in addition to gaining valuable work ready skills.
Willie Wood, HR Director of Johnstons of Elgin and Chair of Developing Young Workforce in Moray said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils at these schools to undertake some training that will help them in any role for the future.
“Whilst WorldHost training is aimed at the tourism and service sector, any candidate who has this on their CV will be of interest to a potential employer. This is not just because of the quality of the training, but will also recognise their initiative in undertaking the training in the first place.”
The Moray Economic Partnership is leading the roll-out of the WorldHost initiative across Moray, which aims to achieve WorldHost Regional Destination status.
