Safety first approach at Typhoon base wins the silverware

RAF LOSSIEMOUTH HAS laid claim to the first ever trophy awarded to base personnel involved in ensuring the safety of everyone involved with the Typhoon force.

First winners of the RAF Safety Centre Trophy has gone to the Lossiemouth Safety Centre, which was created on the base to integrate air safety, quality assurance, continuous improvement and functional safety systems into a highly effective safety management system.

It is a change that has led to a more streamlined method of identifying risks over all areas of RAF Lossiemouth business and is responsible for progressing safe and successful solutions.

Executive Officer for the Safety Centre, Squadron Leader Doug Timms, explained: “When the Safety Centre was established in 2013 we took the opportunity through using continuous improvement practices to develop a new Total Safety Management System.

“By creating a ‘Total Safety’ mind set we have been able identify and progress numerous safety initiatives at RAF Lossiemouth and within the wider Service.

“For the Safety Centre to be awarded the inaugural RAF Safety Centre Trophy is testament to the excellent work the Safety Centre Team has carried out over the past three years to improve safety, performance and operational capability at RAF Lossiemouth in support of the Station’s primary role of protecting the UK skies.”
