Updated: Appeal over unprovoked assault outside an Elgin bar

AN UNPROVOKED ASSAULT on a man at Dicey Riley’s bar on Elgin’s High Street has prompted an appeal for possible witnesses.

The incident took place at around 12.10am on Saturday, March 18 when the 59-year-old was attacked.

Police say they wish to trace two men aged around 25 and 27 who they believe can assist them with their enquiries. The first man is described as between 6ft and 6ft 2ins tall with short fair or possibly ginger hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a long sleeved white shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

The second man is described as between 5ft 9ins and 5ft 10ins tall with a stocky build. He had short dark hair and was wearing dark coloured jeans or trousers with a long sleeved light blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

It is understood the pair had been in the Victoria bar earlier in the evening with a larger group of men and possibly spoke with Irish accents. They are thought to have entered the Dicey Riley’s bar at around midnight.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.

UPDATE: Police have revealed that a 22-year-old has been arrested in connection with this allegation, and is expected appear at Elgin Sheriff Court on Monday.

PC Jamie Taggart said: “I would like to thank the public for their assistance in response to our appeal for information earlier today.”
