Elgin site gets green light for green fingered gardeners

ELGIN RESIDENTS WILL have the benefit of new allotments with the approval of a planning application to develop a site alongside the Pinefield playing fields.

The land was earmarked for the purpose last year and followed efforts by both Moray Council and the Elgin Allotment Association to identify a suitable location.

Now the land to the south-west of the playing fields will accommodate 22 individual allotments, each with a workable area of at least 250sqm. The allotments will each be provided with a shed and a polytunnel.

Those holding the allotments will be able to access them through a specially created access from Ashgrove Road – the new development will include car parking space and bicycle tracks.

The intention is that the allotment association will take a lease from the council to develop and manage the site.
