A BURSARY SCHEME has been launched that will enable up to ten local students to join Gordonstoun School as day pupils for two years of sixth-form study.
The Moray private school launched the scheme on Tuesday, The Christopher Beadle Gordonstoun Bursary, which is being targeted at young people from the North East of Scotland who wish to benefit from the school’s broad curriculum and challenging academic study.
Places under the bursary scheme will be available from September. Applicants for the bursary, which will see students receive a discount on fees of 10-50%, will be asked to demonstrate that they will make an outstanding contribution to and benefit from one or more of the following aspects of Gordonstoun’s unique curriculum – academic study, performing arts, sports, outdoor education or sailing.
The bursary has been made possible by the generous legacy of former pupil Christopher Beadle, who attended Gordonstoun from 1946 to 1951. Gordonstoun will match-fund the legacy in order to ensure the widest possible access.
A spokeswoman for Gordonstoun said: “The founder of Gordonstoun, Kurt Hahn, had the ambition of widening access to a Gordonstoun education to as many young people as possible and we continue to be committed to realising this goal.
“We are therefore delighted that the Christopher Beadle Gordonstoun Bursary will give up to ten students from the North East of Scotland the opportunity to attend as day students for the two years of sixth form on a bursary of 10-50%.
“We are so grateful to our late former pupil, Christopher Beadle, whose generosity has made this scheme possible.”
Deadline for submissions in the form of CVs and a covering letter is July 23, with main interviews being conducted in the week beginning July 24. Further interviews may be conducted in the week commencing August 7 for those unable to attend in July.
