Motorist cut free after 4×4 left road near Rothes

A MOTORISTS HAD to be cut free from his vehicle following another horrific road traffic accident in Moray on Thursday.

Emergency services rushed to the crash scene on the A941 near Rothes shortly before 1pm after learning that a Mitsubishi 4×4 and a van had collided.

Three fire and rescue service engines attended alongside ambulance and police, with the air ambulance also placed on standby but unused as thankfully the severity of injuries was not as bad as first feared.

Fire crews used cutting gear on the Mitsubishi to release its driver and passenger – the vehicle having careered off the road and down a muddy slope. One casualty was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital by ambulance for ‘precautionary checks’ while the driver of the Volkswagen van escaped without injury.

The A941 was temporarily closed between Rothes and Fogwatt to allow recovery and clean up to take place.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We were called to a two-vehicle road traffic accident at 12.50pm. Fire crews and the ambulance service were also in attendance. One man was taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin for some precautionary checks.”
