A FOOD AND DRINK festival in Elgin later this week is being hailed as the biggest and best of its kind.
The Elgin Food and Drink Festival has grown year on year as a celebration of the best Elgin, Moray and Speyside has to offer.
It will include lots of hands-on activities allowing visitors to be involved on a day that is set up to keep everyone entertained. Spread out over the Plainstones and into surrounding streets, there will once again be a family-friendly and fun atmosphere, with entertainment for the whole family.
Market stalls and entertainment can be found in Batchen Street, South Street and Commerce Street.
A spokesman for the event said: “We are proud to be supporting the Cannonbazw Run, a locally organised car run which raises money for charity. The cars will make their way along the High Street at approximately 11.05am and along North Street, before heading out onto the A96.
“They will be parked in the Ladyhill Car Park in the morning for people who are interested to pop along and view.
“We are also delighted to welcome back the Oakwood cookery school, who will be hosting the “Cook with the Chef” sessions. If you fancy trying something a wee bit different, then Sushi’s on the menu this year, join the team at 11.40am, 1.30pm, 4.00pm to have a go.
“You will find them based at the back of the St Giles church in the large gazebo. To make sure you don’t miss out contact the Embrace Elgin (Elgin BID) 01343 550652, office and we will be happy to book you a place.”
The Tasty Tipple, always a favourite will be back and located in the Private Car Park on South Street, it will be the home of craft brewers, artisan drink producers and established manufacturers and distributors.
To add to the atmosphere El-Gin and the Station Hotel will be there to demonstrate their skills and inspire. Droughty Drinks are holding wine fayre from 2.00pm – 5.00pm upstairs in the Drouthy Cobbler – entry is £5 on the door.
The spokesman added: “Our chefs this year are Craig Wilson – the Kilted Chef, John McCruden and Janette MacPherson – Cake designer, will be giving cookery demonstrations live on the Plainstones and in the St Giles Shopping Centre.
“Cantrybridge College are going to be in the St Giles Shopping Centre giving children the chance to have fun with food, while Jodie from Moray Firth Radio will be broadcasting live on the day and will be joined by the Street Team who will be out and about giving away goodies to the public.
“Businesses in Batchen Street will be using the day to launch their new initiative “Buzz on Batchen”, with so many new businesses opening it was the perfect time for them to collaborate and celebrate their success.”
