RESIDENTS AT A MORAY housing estate were evacuated from their homes late last night as police sealed off an area for what they described as an ‘ongoing incident’.
Police arrived at the Pilmuir area of Forres at around 9pm on Monday evening and later called in ‘specialists’ from Aberdeen to help them deal with the situation.
Little information was emerging from the scene other than Social Media posts from residents who claimed to have been forced from their homes and urged to find alternative accommodation for the night with family or friends.
Local reports say that a large number of police officers arrived and a man was seen throwing tiles from a rooftop at them as well as threatening to harm himself.
However, early this morning Police confirmed that the incident was over and an arrest has been made, with a Police Scotland spokeswoman saying: “During the evening of Monday 28th August 2017 Police Scotland, North East Division dealt with an incident at Stuart Street, Forres which resulted in a number of properties gas supplies being disconnected and a small number of persons evacuated.
“A 26 year old male was arrested from a property within the street. The Scottish Gas Network will be attending in the area Tuesday 29th August 2017 to re-connect the affected addresses.”
