Moray teenager appears on charges relating to fatal road crash

A TEENAGER HAS appeared in court in Elgin facing charges in relation to the fatal car accident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old Buckie High School pupil.

Owen Petrie, 18, appeared in private at Elgin Sheriff Court on Thursday accused of causing death by dangerous driving. He made no plea or declaration and was released on bail.

The charge relates to the accident on the B9016 between Buckie and Keith in October last year, in which Buckpool 14-year-old Neringa Narusyte died. Petrie was driving his Vauxhall Corsa when it collided with another vehicle near Rye Riggs at Aultmore.

Another teenager, Nyah Mckay, was critically injured in the crash and was airlifted to Glasgow, while two others – a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old – were also injured. The driver of the other vehicle escaped unhurt.

No date has been set for Petrie’s next court appearance.
