EFFORTS TO SAVE Outfit Moray from closure are continuing this weekend when four members of staff from the outdoor charity will take part in a ‘North East 250’ Challenge.

Last weekend hundreds turned out in Lossiemouth in support of the charity that needs to raise around £50,000 to ensure it survives into the spring next year – and continues to provide support for young people through a series of outdoor activities.

An abseil event at the Grampian Furnishers building in the town raised over £3500 – with another £780 raised on Saturday evening at a quiz night.

Fundraiser for the charity is Karen Cox, who commented: “All who took part were very patient with their wait and everyone seemed to enjoy their experience which, for some, was a terrifyingly proud achievement. It really was fantastic seeing the look of excitement (or relief) on their faces as they landed.”

With their future still uncertain however, four members of staff will be taking on the ‘North East 250’ on a donated tandem bicycle on December 10 and 11. They will be tackling the 250-mile route and winter weather in continuous shifts of two, with other members of staff providing logistical support along the route. With very much the family feel, the whole charity is throwing their support behind the challenge.

Tony Brown, Outfit Moray’s CEO, said: “The determination of ‘Santa’s Tandemistas’ to complete their challenge mirrors the whole charity’s passion and belief in the work we do and the very real need for Outfit Moray’s survival.

“Our abseil event was a hugely positive step in the right direction, but we still have a long way to go and we will continue to fight as hard as we can to stay open.

“We are relieved to have made a dent in our £50k funding shortfall and are making positive steps in the right direction, but we still have a long way to go before Outfit Moray’s future is secure. We will continue to fight as hard as we can to stay open and hope the public continue to stay behind us as we carry on our battle to survive.”
